Ann McCarty Fine Art
“Inspired by the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley, I paint landscapes and still life in bold oils that capture the shifting colors and energy of the natural world. My work reflects a love of nature’s rhythms and an invitation to cherish and protect them for future generations."
After retiring from my professional career, I have devoted my time to painting as a way to honor and recreate the beauty of the world around me. My work reflects the natural harmony I find in pastoral landscapes and still life.
I work primarily in oil on linen canvas using photographs, sketches, and occasional plein air studies as references. My process begins with blocking in shapes and values to establish composition, then develops through bold color and multi-directional brushstrokes that create movement, texture, and harmony.
I am inspired daily by the shifting colors, light, and atmosphere of the world around me. Through painting, I explore how everyday scenes and objects can hold a sense of wonder, grounding us in the present while reminding us of life’s simple richness. Influenced by contemporary artists such as Peter Fiore, Steven Walker, and Rush Baker IV, I strive to share my love for the natural world and encourage its appreciation and protection for future generations.
